Oatmeal Baths for Eczema

Eczema is a small red, round, dry patchy spot found on the baby’s skin. It can get itchy and uncomfortable for the baby.

Our son had a couple of these small round dry spots on his legs and arms. We already use a plant based fragrant free laundry detergent and shampoo/body wash, so I knew it wasn’t caused by those products. I also noticed it occurred mainly during the summer time.

Through research, I learned that oatmeal can calm or alleviate eczema. So we decided to add it to his bath tub. Here’s how we did it.

We added water to his bath tub using the 4moms spout cover to ensure the water temperature is at the appropriate temperature for his body.

Then we added about 1/4-1/2 cup of oatmeal to the water and let it sit for about 10 minutes. The oatmeal will infuse into the water which will help provide the treatment that’s needed for the eczema.

After his bath, I like to apply a plant based, fragrant free body lotion or the Honest Company’s Organic Healing Balm to his eczema spots. If you don’t have neither product, you can apply a small amount of Organic Coconut Oil which will also provide the moisture that’s needed.

We noticed a great change in his eczema after a few oatmeal baths.
