Pureed Oatmeal and Carrots

By combining both the pureed oatmeal with the pureed carrots, you are providing your infant with a variety of nutrients.  Your infant will receive fiber, protein and iron from the whole grain oatmeal and Vitamins A, K & C, fiber and potassium from the carrots.

When preparing them, steam the carrots first, then cook the oats separately. Store them both separately in glass jars and combine them in the bowl, before serving.

Pureed Carrots:

Using a vegetable scrub, scrub away all the dirt off of 5 carrots under running cold water.

Peel the skin off the carrots

Cut the ends off of the carrots and discard them in the trash can

Cut the carrots into thin slices and place them into a steam basket.

Add cold water to a saucepan.

Place the steam basket with the carrots on top of the saucepan and cover it with a lid. Turn the heat on high and bring the water to a boil. Once the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to low ( you should still be able to hear the boil) and allow it to steam for about 40 minutes or until for tender.

NOTE: Cook times vary since the carrots can cook faster if the steam basket is larger.

When testing for doneness , the carrots should be fork tender ( you can easily place a fork through the carrots). Allow the carrots to cool slightly.

Don’t place it in the blender when it’s too hot.

Place the carrots in the blender and add 1/4 cup of filtered water. Blend the carrots until it has all been blended and is at a puree like consistency.

Place the pureed carrots into glass jars and let them cool. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days

How to Make Pureed Oatmeal

Instructions:
Please also refer to the oat’s cooking instructions for cook times and preparation steps.

Add 1 cup of filtered water to a saucepan. Bring the water to a boil. Once it starts to boil, add 1/2 cup of oats and give it a stir. Cover the saucepan with a lid and lower the heat to low. Bring the water with the oats to a simmer and allow it to simmer until the oats have absorbed most of the water (this can take about 3 minutes).

Don’t walk away from the saucepan since the content can start to foam up. If it does start to create some foam, raise the lid and allow the foam to go down. Once it’s gone away, place the lid back on.

Remember to stir occasionally.

After 3 minutes, you will notice most of the water has been absorbed. If you were to stir the oats, you will notice it still has some water it needs to absorb. Remove the lid and allow it to cook for an additional 2 minutes or until all the liquid has been absorbed and the oatmeal is at a soft consistency. Allow the oatmeal to cool slightly.

Don’t place it in the blender when it’s too hot.

Place the oatmeal in a blender and add 1/4 cup of filtered water. Blend the oatmeal until all the oats have been blended. If you notice it’s still pasty or not as liquidity or to your liking, add a little bit more water and blend the oatmeal. The end result should be of pureed oatmeal.

Place the pureed oatmeal into glass jars and let it cool. Store it in the refrigerator.

How to serve the Pureed Oatmeal and Carrots:

Serving size varies for each child, since some will eat more or less than others.

When ready to serve, remove both the prepared pureed oatmeal and pureed carrots from the refrigerator.

Spoon 1 tablespoon each of the pureed oatmeal and the purred carrot into your infant’s bowl. Mix both the pureed oatmeal and the carrots together and serve.

Place the remainder back in the refrigerator to serve when needed.

Enjoy!
