Here is a pureed meal I had made for my triplets. The apples and sweet potatoes help add nutrients and flavor to this meal. Additionally, I love the nutrients from the quinoa and broccoli. Did you know, quinoa is considered a superfood because of its nutritional benefits. In fact, I had read once that it contains all 9 essential amino acids. Apparently, those essential amino acids aren’t made by our bodies and as a result, it must come from food.

I cooked the quinoa and steamed the sweet potato, apples and broccoli. Then I blended them altogether until I got a purée consistency. I used 1 cup of quinoa so I can have a big batch but 1/2 a cup will do too.
Furthermore, when serving quinoa on its own, it tends to be messy-the individual bits of quinoa tend to go everywhere. This pureed method helps it combine and blend in well with the rest of the ingredients. My girls enjoyed this combination.
PrintPureed Sweet Potatoes, Apples, Broccoli, and Quinoa
This nutritious puree is made by cooking the quinoa and steaming the sweet potatoes, apples, and broccoli. Finally, the cooled ingredients are then blended in a blender until they are smooth and combined.
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Rest Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 20 minutes
- Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup quinoa, rinsed well
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1 large sweet potato
- 2 apples
- small bunch of broccoli
Instructions
- Measure 1 cup of quinoa, transfer it in a mesh strainer, place the strainer over a bowl, and run cold water over it to give it a rinse. Be sure to rinse the quinoa well. Note: (if cooking 1/2 cup quinoa use 1 cup of water).
- Add the rinsed quinoa and the water to a saucepan. Over medium heat, bring the liquid to a boil.
- Once it boils, give it a final stir, cover it with a lid, lower the heat to low, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, the liquid should be absorbed. If it hasn’t been absorbed, then cover with the lid and allow it to simmer for a few more minutes or until the liquid has been absorbed.
- Turn the heat off, without removing the lid, let it sit off the heat for 15 minutes. I like to place a paper towel under the lid to help catch the moisture. Allow it to sit covered.
- Fluff with fork. Set aside to cool.
- Scrub clean the sweet potato, apples and broccoli. Peel the skin off of the sweet potato and apples. Core the apple and cut into chunks. Cut the sweet potato into chunks and dice the broccoli. Steam them until fork tender and let them cool.
- Add the steamed apples, sweet potatoes and broccoli to a blender. Also add the cooked quinoa. Blend until puréed.
- I like to keep mine in a glass food storage container and store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
